Adobe & Software
Adobe is large enough that it warrants a listing of its own. These people make more useful software than any other vendor I know of. I should know, I have, and use, all their Macintosh products. Adobe Systems is the gateway to a huge fund of information. I should mention the exception of After Effects, which I have but do not use, choosing instead the Apple Final Cut Production Suite when Adobe decided to abandon Premier on the Mac platform. By choice I use the entire Adobe Premium Creative Suite
Quark of course is my other page layout program, used rather than Adobe InDesign when projects require it. This is one solid, rather staid program that can be modified with numerous and sometimes expensive extensions. It has lost, in my opinion, its edge as a design tool to Adobe InDesign but it continues to be a good DTP layout program.
With my background as an Industrial Designer, 3D programs are of great interest. For accurate CAD work, Vectorworks in my choice, but for everyday modeling, I use Cararra Studio, and Poser
