Notice of final entry to this web site

Sadly, we live in a changing world, where attitudes to photography are changing, as a result of fears and suspicion in regard to photographers motives. This would appear to be a combination of concerns with regard to terrorism, and a lack of understanding of laws regarding personal privacy that all professional photographers should understand and follow.
Recent experience involves 2 quite different situations and outcomes. The first was that I was questioned by the London Metropolitan Police, for reasons of terrorism and security, while taking photographs in London. This was conducted in a most polite and courteous manner, and both they and I continued our business as a result. The second event, here in MonteCastello was quite different, in both the manner of the ‘discussion” and the outcome.

The short term outcome is that for the next 3 weeks I am physically unable to do any photography as well as most of the other daily activities that I am used to. The long term result is that, after 3 years of being delighted to follow the events here in Montecastello and provide publicity for a community that we feel feel proud to belong to, I shall cease to do this. I am fully aware that the majority of the people here have very much appreciated my photographic and Ross’ computer documentation, and I hope that newcomers to this site will enjoy the images and information pertaining to this beautiful town.

Purtroppo, stiamo in un mondo che cambia, dove gli attegiamenti alla fotografia stanno cambiando, in una risposta a paura e dei sospetti ai motivi dei fotografi. Quello sembrebbe causata delle preoccupazioni in riguardo ai terroristi, ed anche una mancanza di comprensione in riguardo alle leggi di privacy personale che devono capire e seguire tutti fotografi professionali.

L’esperienza recente coinvolta 2 eventi in diversi situazioni con diversi risulti. Il primo era quando sono fermata per interragazione dal London Metropolitan Police, per ragioni di terrorisma e la sicurezza, mentre fotografavo a Londra. Questa era condotta in una maniera molto gentile e cortese, e alla fine sia loro sia io abbiamo seguito i nostri affari senza problema. Il secondo evento, qui, a MonteCastello, era molto diverso, sia nella maniera della “discussione” sia negli esiti.
Nell’immediato futuro, per le prossime 3 settimane, non saro capace di fotografare affatto, o fare tante altre attività quotidianale alle quali sono abituata di fare. A lungo termine, dopo 3 anni di aver fatto questo servizio con tanto piacere per il paese di Montecastello, al quale siamo fieri di appartenere, ho deciso di smettere. Mi dispiace perche sono molto accorta che la maggioranza della gente qui apprezza il mio lavoro fotografico e quello di Ross nel disegno del sito web. Spero che chi venga per vedere questo sito si divertino con l’informazione e degli immagini del questo bellissimo paese.

Storm in MCdV: Damage and Recovery to FestA Madonna delle Carceri

Saturday June 28th marked the opening of the new car park, and the beginning of the July MCdV festa. The layout has been altered again with upgraded cooking and serving facilities; each year that we have been here we have noted improvements on an annual basis. Evening meals with a 'daily special' are provided week long with a live band on stage and dance floor, each evening.

Monday July 1st, the town was hit by quite a violent storm. The tent provided as an eating area was swept across the parking space by a large gust of wind and then a second gust threw it over the fence, depositing it upside down in the centre of the playing field; in the process three lamp standards and the dividing fence were damaged

Further storm damge in the town included downed trees, tree limbs and left the Centro Storico without street lights that eveing. Below are images of the festa tent, the morning after the storm and more surprisingly, the same evening, The organizers just got on and put it all back together and carried on - one night of the festa was affected and life continues. We are always impressed by this community's ability to weather storms literally or metaphorically, and continue onwards.

Un Temporale a Montecastello di Vibio. I danni ed i ricuperi alla festa della madonna delle carceri

Sabato 28 giugno abbiamo festeggiato l'apertura del nuovo parcheggio e il comincio della Festa della Madonna delle Carceri. Ogni anno che siamo stati qui abbiamo visto varie miglioramenti alla festa.

lunedi 1 luglio abbiamo avuto un temporale fortissimo che ha rovinato la tende, la rete e qualche lampioni, tutti nuovi.La tende era buttata sopra la rete, finendo capovolto nel Campo Sportivo vecchio (l'immagine sopra). Tanto lavoro durante il giorno dopo e la festa ha continuato come se fosse niente successo. (l'immagine sotto)

Siamo sempre impressionati della buona capacita di ripresa delle Montecastellese.

Torraccia 2008

The summer bar,run by the community organization has reopened for the current summer. This year they are able to have a full summer, as the reconstruction which was completed last summer weathered the winter season with no problems. For those who do not know, it is traditional to join the ProLoco with a small yearly donation and if you did not make an extra donation towards the recontruction, the assocoation is still paying of the mortgage for the reconstruction. Torraccia 2008

Il Bar dell'estate, organizzato del Proloco e stato riaperto per tutta questa stagione.Per quelli che non sanno, di solito si offre un abbonamento annuale. Se non avete offerto un dono in piu, il ProLoco continua di pagare il mutuo per la ricostruzione e un contribuito sarebbe molto benvenuto. I dettagli di quello sono qui.

Looming over the Bar this year is a large crane. Work should soon get started on one of the few major buildings requiring reconstruction within the walls of the town.We are told that it will be subdivided into multiple apartments, any other details are unknown. We will be able to follow the work from our terrace, from where the image below was taken.		E arrivato un grande gru sopra La Torraccia, per ristrutturare un edifice grande, uno dei pochi che rimangono nel Centro Storico. Si sente che ci sara parecchi apartamenti, ma i dettagli non sono saputi. Sara facile di seguire il lavoro dal nostro terrazzo dove e fatto quell'immagine.

The public parking lot, for campers and buses, carved from the former practice soccer field has been completed and formally opened. While its need has been questioned by some, and its visual imapact feared, the final result is quite good and adds to the sense of arrival in the town as one approaches up the hill from Madona del Piano. Along with the proposed construction on the opposite side of the road, partly to address the needs of Caserma, this redevelopment will formally invite visitors as a gateway into the town.		Il parcheggio nuovo per i camper e i pullman e stato aperto ufficialmente. I risulti sono buoni e fa un senso di una entrata al paese. Anche con l'addizione della Caserma qui sara un bel portone al paese

Infrastructure Improvements in MCdV

Three more streets, those crossing over the middle of the Centro Storico have been resurfaced with the understreet services being upgraded at the same time. This completes the majority of the internal street (one left). The view shown below is of the corner intersection of two of the streets

In related information there was a town meeting discussing the possible relocation of the Carabinieri Caserma. The current location is too small to meet the growing need for staffing. An alternate location on the town approach is being considered, and the adoption of this plan would likely prevent the other unacceptable possibility of losing the Caserma altogether.

I miglioramenti nella infrastruttura a Montecastello di vibio

Hanno completato il lavoro di rifare il manto stradale di tre strade in piu, queste che attraversano il centro del Centro Storico.

Ci sono state discussioni di una nuova Caserma, perche la Caserma che esiste addesso e' troppo piccola. C'e la possibilita di rifarla all'entrata del paese all ex distributore, che sembra essere una buona alternativa, per evitare l'altra possibilita di mancare di averne una.

Travel to and from Umbria:

Ryanair (http://www.ryanair.com/), the Irish lowcost airline now flies from Stansted, London to Perugia, Umbria. The service that was originally started with three flights a week, has been expanded to four. An added advantage for those in MCdV is that if you are lucky, you get to overfly the town. Ryanair (http://www.ryanair.com/), la compagnia aerea economica, vola da Stansted London a Perugia, Umbria. Il servizio che ha iniziato con 3 voli alla settimana adesso provvede 4.
